Before AfterMetallic epoxy coatings are hot! This project based in the Hoboken New Jersey area (right across the river from NYC) looks similar to a stained concrete floor.
Garage and Beyond based of Englewood NJ has developed a specialized skill using metallic epoxies that come in a variety of colors. This one was applied over an old very porous marble tile that the owner was planning to remove.
Fernando Franco owner of Garage and Beyond provided an ideal, cost saving solution. Rather than remove the tile they were able to apply the epoxy right over the surface. To add another degree of customization, custom hand drew, saw cut and grouted the sunbursts.
The final project saved considerable time and money time over removing and replacing the tile. Looking for a solution to your flooring issue? Contact Fernando Franco at

Picataway New Jersey based Wine Chateau recently chose a metallic epoxy rather than staining concrete floors in their flagship location.
Wine Chateau.com is an online retailer of fine wines in addition to their brick and mortar retail stores.
They chose the metallic epoxy for a few reasons. First they wanted an environmentally friendly product applied to their floors. Second they needed a durable seamless surface that would handle excessive foot traffic and was easy to clean without dirt and bacteria growth. Finally they wanted a unique decorative surface.
Metallic epoxies have a varied look like stained concrete but with tremendous depth. Garage and Beyond based in Englewood New Jersey was the applicator.

These projects were created by stained concrete flooring artisan Dana Boyer who services Phoenix and the entire state of Arizona.
Dana is a well known artist and has traveled nationwide utilizing her unique talents on residential and commercial floors and walls.
The images here, all works by Dana, were created utilizing the Surface gel Tek "Flattoo" system. Surface Gel Tek based in Mesa Arizona developed an artistic system for stained concrete flooring.
Once a floor is stained "Flattoos" (custom graphics) are applied to the concrete surface. Gelled acids are painted over the Flattoo where they start pulling stain out of the floor. The gels do not bleed under the Flattoo leaving nice crisp lines. After 10 minutes or so the gel is wiped clean with a wet rag.
The final step is mixing stains and dyes into a gel (without acid) and applying to the concrete floor. The gels prevent the stains and dyes from bleeding under the Flattoo. In the hands of a gifted artists like Dana, the results are extraordinary.

Outside Portland Oregon in St Helens, C4 Coatings completed this stained concrete floor with a polished surface.
This was at Bings Restaurant, a 2,500 square foot project. The floor had to be ground down using 40 grit diamonds blades, then polished with a series of diamond blades. At about mid point in the polishing process the floors were colored with a black dye , then a densifyer was applied before continuing the polishing process.

The stained concrete floor came out a dark gray charcoal with a high polish finishing with a 1,500 diamond grit. Not visible in the photo are accents of red and blacks at the bar areas.

Engrave A Crete formely based in Florida has moved to a new location in Missouri where they teach stained concrete flooring and engraving.
As an owner of Engrave A Crete tooling, I'd say they are excellent. If you are in the decorative concrete floor business you should own at least a few of their tools. I own the Mongoose, the Wasp and Barracuda. I can live without the Barracuda, but the Mongoose and Wasp will enable you to make precision saw cuts.
I've used them to make custom tile, about 4 foot square. Visit
www.artezans.com and view the radiant floor images to see the photos.
I particularly like using the Mongoose to create tile shapes. Stained concrete flooring has a lot of variation. This variation can be unpleasant to some clients. However when you make saw cuts in tile shapes it makes the finished product look natural.

Here are a few stained concrete floor photos in Mesa Arizona by Surface Gel Tek.
Surface Gel Tek is the inventor of a line of Gelled Acids that make it possible to do artwork and logos on flooring. Gelled acids applied over Surface Gel Tek "Flattoos" (custom graphics) will enable you to customize a stained concrete floor.
Flattoos can be created in any size or shape, then applied to you floor. The adhesive backing sticks to the concrete, the the gelled acids are painted on your floor. Let sit for a few minutes and wipe off. The Gels pull the stain out of the surface without bleeding under the Flattoo. The result is nice and crisp.
If you leave the gels on for just a few minutes and wipe off you'll get an antiqued look. Leave on for up to 15 minutes and the gels pull your colors out of the floor completely. The you can mix colorants into "Stain Mule" for adding colors back into your artwork.
